# Blueprint

> An automation, script, or template entity with blanks to fill in, so others can reuse it, like a motion light that only needs the motion sensor and the lamp.

- In code: `blueprint`, `!input`
- Also: blueprints

The blanks are inputs, and each input can have a [selector](https://contributors.home-assistant.io/glossary/selector/), so the UI can show the right control for it.

Users import blueprints from a link, like a forum topic or a file on GitHub, not from the [Marketplace](https://contributors.home-assistant.io/glossary/marketplace/). To write and share one, see [blueprints](https://contributors.home-assistant.io/marketplace/guides/blueprints/) in the Marketplace area.
