The roadmap starts with problems people actually have. Many opportunities on it began as a feature request. Adding yours, or making an existing one stronger, is the easiest way to help shape what comes next. You need a free GitHub account. New to GitHub? Use GitHub, without being a developer helps.

1. Search first

Go to the feature requests and search for your idea. Someone may have suggested it already.

2. Vote, or add your use case

Found it? Select the upvote arrow at the top of the post. Votes help show what the community values most.

Even better: add a comment with your own situation. What problem would this solve for you, and what do you do today instead? Use cases, research, and evidence help much more than "+1".

3. Or write a new one

Didn't find it? Open a new discussion:

  1. Pick the category that fits best, like Dashboards & cards or Voice assistants. Not sure? There is a category for that too.
  2. Fill in the form, and explain your idea:
    • What problem does it solve?
    • What is your proposed solution?
    • Why is it important to you?
    • Are there any alternatives or workarounds?

Bugs and support questions don't belong here. The feature requests repository lists where to report those.

What to expect

Not every feature request is implemented. The project focuses on ideas that fit its values: local control, privacy, choice, and sustainability. Some requests are better solved outside Home Assistant itself, like with a custom integration or a dashboard card. Inactive discussions may be closed.

When a request fits, the product team of the foundation can turn it into an opportunity on the roadmap. From idea to release shows what happens after that.

What is next

  • Follow an opportunity you care about, and comment on it.
  • Want to help build it? Look at the epics and their tasks.
