Home Assistant is built by people from all over the world, with all kinds of backgrounds and levels of experience. The Home Assistant code of conduct makes sure everyone can take part without harassment. By contributing, you agree to follow it.

Where it applies

Everywhere we work together: GitHub, Discord, the community forum, social media, and events. It also applies when someone represents the project in public, like on an official account or at an event.

What we expect

  • Be kind and show empathy.
  • Respect opinions, viewpoints, and experiences that differ from yours.
  • Give constructive feedback, and accept it gracefully.
  • Take responsibility for your mistakes, apologize to those affected, and learn from it.
  • Focus on what is best for the community, not only for yourself.

What isn't okay

  • Sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
  • Trolling, insults, and personal or political attacks
  • Harassment, in public or in private
  • Sharing someone's private information, like an address, without their permission
  • Anything else that would reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Reporting a problem

If you experience or see something that isn't okay, report it. Email [email protected], or use the report or flag feature of the platform you're on. Every report is reviewed and investigated, promptly and fairly, and the privacy of the person reporting is respected. How each platform handles reports, and what moderators do with them, is on reporting a problem and moderation.

What happens then

Community leaders decide on the consequences, depending on the impact. They range from a private, written warning, through a formal warning and a temporary ban, to a permanent ban for a pattern of serious violations. Leaders can also remove or edit comments, code, issues, and other contributions that don't follow the code of conduct.

The full code of conduct has the details of each step. It's adapted from version 2.0 of the Contributor Covenant.
