Home Assistant meetups happen all over the world. They are free, informal get-togethers where people talk about their smart homes, show what they built, and help each other. If there is none in your city, you can start one.

Find an existing meetup

All Home Assistant meetups are listed on the Home Assistant Meetups calendar on Luma. The community page of home-assistant.io shows them on a map. Joining a meetup or two before hosting one is a great way to see how others do it.

Create your own

  1. Create an account on Luma, and open the Home Assistant Meetups calendar.
  2. Select Submit Event, then Create New Event. The button is above the calendar.
  3. Use the invite graphic from the community page as the event image.
  4. Fill in the event name, time zone, date, time, location, capacity, and hosts.
  5. Create the event.
  6. Let people know: post it in the meetup thread on Discord, or in the Social section of the community forum.

Costs

The Open Home Foundation reimburses hosts for certain costs of hosting a meetup. Which costs, and how to claim them, is described in the community meetups playbook. Read it before you spend anything.

Community Day

In 2026, the Open Home Foundation organizes Community Day for the first time, on Saturday, November 7: one day where hosts around the world organize meetups for everyone who uses one of the projects of the foundation, like Home Assistant, ESPHome, and Music Assistant. Community Day events have their own calendar on Luma. You can host one the same way as a regular meetup.

Tips for a good meetup

  • Pick a place that is easy to reach, and where people can hear each other.
  • Welcome people at the door, and introduce newcomers to others. Not everyone is comfortable walking into a room full of strangers.
  • Give people something to talk about: a short demo, a show and tell, or a question to start with.
  • The code of conduct applies at meetups too. If something happens, see Report a problem.
