What it shows

The state at the top of a timer is the countdown. While the timer runs, it ticks down live, like 22:52. When it is paused, the state is added, like 22:52 (Paused). When it is idle, it shows Idle.

Below it is a duration field, with hours, minutes, and seconds. It starts at the duration the timer is set up with, and stays there while the timer runs, so it doesn't jump around with the countdown. Change it to start the timer for a different time.

Below the field, a row of text buttons holds the actions. Which ones show depends on the state:

  • Idle: Start, to start the timer with the duration in the field.
  • Active: Set, to restart with the duration in the field, Pause, Cancel, and Finish.
  • Paused: Set, Start to continue, Cancel, and Finish.

The laundry timer is running, so it gets Set, Pause, Cancel, and Finish. The tea timer is idle, so it only gets Start.

Design notes

  • The actions are plain text buttons, not big controls. A timer is about the time, so the countdown and the field get the attention.
  • When the timer finishes while the dialog is open, the countdown pulses twice, so you notice even when you are not looking at the numbers.
  • Timers can have presets, a row of fixed durations below the actions to start the timer with one tap. Those come from the entity settings, and are not part of these demos.
  • The duration you enter can be longer than the duration the timer is set up with.

In code

The view is more-info-timer in src/dialogs/more-info/controls/more-info-timer.ts. The presets are ha-more-info-timer-presets in src/dialogs/more-info/components/timers/. The countdown text comes from computeDisplayTimer in src/data/timer.ts.
